nibnow does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. It uses a small number of cookies and browser storage entries that the service needs to work, plus an anonymous visit counter that you can switch off.
Sign-in cookies (names beginning authjs.): keep you signed in, protect sign-in against forged requests and remember where to return after signing in. They exist only if you create an account or sign in, and are removed when you sign out or the session expires.
Browser storage (keys beginning nibnow:): your language, region, sectors, text size, saved briefs, which notifications you have read, and your choice on this page. This stays in your browser and is not sent to our servers unless you are signed in and use a feature that syncs it.
nibnow keeps a random id in your browser's local storage (the key nn_vid) and sends it, with the page you opened or an alert action you took, to nibnow's own server. We use it to count visitors, whether people come back, and whether alerts are used, so we can tell if the app is useful. It sets no cookies.
The id is random: it is not made from your name, email, device or IP address, and it is not linked to your account. We do not store your IP address or browser details with it, we do not share it with anyone, and records are deleted after 90 days. Story addresses are reduced to a template and search words are never recorded.
Counting is off automatically if your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. You can also switch it off below, which deletes the id from your browser.
When switched on, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many pages load and how fast. It sets no cookies, does not use a cross-site identifier and does not follow you to other sites.
If you choose Google sign-in, Google sets its own cookies on its sign-in pages under its own policy. If you allow location access for the weather chip, your browser shares your coordinates directly with Open-Meteo and BigDataCloud; neither sets cookies for us.
You can change this at any time, or clear nibnow's data in your browser settings.
Right now: visits are counted anonymously.
