A consumer commission ordered Samsung India to issue a refund and compensation after a phone screen failed during the warranty period and the company could not prove physical damage. This ruling highlights consumer rights and manufacturer accountability regarding product warranties.
A consumer forum in Haryana has instructed Samsung India to issue a financial refund of Rs 88,000 for a Z Flip6 smartphone that malfunctioned while still under warranty. The electronics manufacturer was unable to prove that external physical harm was responsible for the technical failure. In addition to the product refund, the panel mandated the technology firm to disburse Rs 5,000 for the emotional distress caused to the customer, alongside another Rs 5,000 to cover legal expenses incurred during the dispute.
Consumer dispute redressal commissions handle complaints regarding defective goods and deficient services. These bodies have the authority to order refunds, compensation, and litigation costs when companies fail to honor warranties without sufficient proof of misuse.
