At age 11, Bodhana Sivanandan became an international master, breaking a 38‑year record for the youngest female to earn the title, highlighting a remarkable achievement in competitive chess.
Sivanandan, who lives in the London suburb of Harrow, broke the 38-year-old record held by Hungarian chess legend Judit Polgar, widely regarded as the greatest female player in chess history, after winning her final-round game at the European Women’s Club Cup in Budva, Montenegro on Friday. Polgar had qualified at the age of 12 in 1988.
The International Master title is a high-ranking chess title awarded by FIDE, the world chess federation, and the European Women’s Club Cup is a major team tournament for female players across Europe.
