The restoration will let visitors see the site’s most impressive ancient home, enhancing cultural tourism and preserving heritage before it opens to guided groups by Christmas.
Officials from the Archaeological Park of Pompeii announced on Tuesday that a major ancient house, considered the most impressive structure within the site, is undergoing a significant restoration project. The total cost for this work is one point four million euros, which is equivalent to approximately sixteen hundred thousand dollars. Unusually for such a large-scale archaeological intervention, the entire financial burden is being shouldered by a private sponsor rather than public funds. The project aims to preserve and stabilize the historic building. According to the park's management, a portion of the residence is scheduled to become accessible to visitors. However, this initial access will be limited to guided groups, with the goal of having these tours ready to begin by the upcoming Christmas holiday season.
