HSBC is introducing its RedCoin stablecoin to millions of PayMe users and planning tokenized fund investments, which could broaden mainstream consumer access to digital assets and blockchain-based financial products. This rollout connects traditional mobile banking infrastructure directly with stablecoin technology.
HSBC is gradually introducing its Hong Kong dollar-pegged RedCoin stablecoin to more than 3.3 million PayMe users, enabling peer-to-peer transfers and payments at supported merchants. The bank plans to integrate RedCoin into its mobile banking app by the end of 2026, allowing customers to access tokenised investment products. The first offering is expected to be a Hong Kong dollar money market fund with a minimum subscription of HK$100.
Stablecoins are digital currencies typically pegged to a fiat currency, such as the US dollar or Hong Kong dollar, designed to maintain a stable value and facilitate transactions on blockchain networks. Tokenized funds represent traditional financial assets issued as digital tokens on a distributed ledger.
