The seizure of a 1.5 kg elephant tusk and arrests highlight ongoing illegal ivory trafficking in Mysuru, a crime that threatens wildlife conservation and can fund other illicit activities.
Authorities in Mysuru detained two individuals and confiscated an elephant tusk scaling approximately one and a half kilograms. Law enforcement officers also secured a motorbike and a pair of mobile devices during the operation, which targeted a suspected illegal trade of the wildlife product. The intervention followed a confidential tip indicating a trio of suspects intended to transfer the contraband. While a pair of alleged perpetrators fell into custody, a third individual managed to evade capture and remains at large. The regional Forest Mobile Squad is currently investigating the incident to locate the missing suspect and determine the origin of the seized ivory.
India's forest authorities, including mobile squads, enforce laws against poaching and ivory trade, which is prohibited under national and international wildlife protection statutes.
